For NAFTZ and its members, this discussion also introduces an important strategic opportunity: ensuring that Foreign-Trade Zones become part of the curriculum in international trade programs across the country. From certificate programs and community colleges to undergraduate and graduate degrees, colleges and universities are continually evolving their programs to reflect real-world trade practices. When FTZ concepts are included in that curriculum, students entering the workforce already have a foundational understanding of how the program supports U.S. manufacturing, global competitiveness, and supply chain strategy. Building that baseline awareness among emerging professionals is a powerful way to strengthen the long-term talent pipeline for the FTZ community.

You’ll hear directly from a professor and student who are exploring FTZs as part of their international trade studies and will share their perspectives on learning about the program and how it connects to real-world trade operations. Their experiences offer a look at how FTZ knowledge can be introduced to the next generation of trade professionals and why it resonates within academic settings.

Finally, an FTZ grantee will discuss why this educational partnership matters from an economic development standpoint. Learning Objectives

Speakers

Joshua Griffith serves as Development Manager with Hillwood’s Multifamily division and Managing Director of Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) #196 at AllianceTexas on behalf of Alliance Corridor, Inc. Since joining Hillwood in 2013, Joshua has been responsible for developing multifamily projects within AllianceTexas and the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area. He is also responsible for planning, entitlements, and acquisitions for Hillwood's strategic long-term multifamily platform. 

Matt Williams, President of TURMS Consulting
is a global trade professional with experience in the areas of Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ), general U.S. Customs compliance, GTM software implementation, and operations optimization 

Chris Hanebeck,  is a seasoned professional, innovator and technology strategist focused on supply chain management. His experience in management consulting, technology startups and senior operating roles spans well over 25 years and includes successful private-equity led turnarounds. He is the CEO of Truck, a software company that makes the management and monitoring of freight incredibly easy. Chris serves on several advisory boards for supply chain, robotics, communication and financial service startups and is an advisor on supply chain, global trade and blockchain at the World Economic Forum. Prior to Truckl, Chris led major business architecture initiatives for MasterCard, managed a team of global innovation consultants at IBM and served as COO of the first cryptographic startup tor loT devices among other posts. He holds several patents, regularly speaks at major conferences and teaches supply chain at the University of North Texas.


Ruby Eason, International Business Student, University of North Texas
Ruby Eason is an international business student at the University of North Texas with a focus in finance, global trade, and marketing. Through her involvement with the ICPA, she has gained hands-on exposure to Foreign-Trade Zones and brings a student perspective on increasing awareness and engagement in FTZ careers.
