The NAFTZ In-Bonds/Exports (originally held in person at the NAFTZ Spring Seminar) now to be held in Webinar format is in response to event attendee surveys requesting to cover this topic in more detail. 

Featured Speaker(s): Jill James and Suzanne Smith, will developments and best practices. A Q&A session will follow the presentation. By registering one agrees to be compliance with NAFTZ policy/guidelines and emailed up to once per sponsor (if applicable).

This session will cover the latest developments and resources. One will be able to:

  • Review how the in-bond program underpins the inbound 
  • Understand certain outbound benefits in an FTZ
  • Explore important details about responsibilities/timeframes 
  • Analyze how the various in-bond parties can remain compliant to avoid penalties and liquidated damages.

Suzanne Smith is a Trade and Customs Manager for Rockefeller Group Foreign Trade Zone Services, a company dedicated to assisting global companies with foreign trade zone feasibility, approval, activation and operational support services as well as related Customs matters.

Ms. Smith’s experience in international trade spans over 35 years working for a Customs brokerage firm and major importer on a broad range of Customs issues.

At M.G. Maher in New Orleans, Ms. Smith was closely involved in the original implementation of the Automated Broker Interface (ABI) program and worked extensively with importers on general import compliance and reporting matters.

In her position as Customs and Traffic Manager for Wartsila North America, Ms. Smith was responsible for integrating Customs compliance into the company’s materials management operational procedures, logistics supply chain network and automated systems throughout North America.

Ms. Smith joined the Rockefeller Group in 2006 and works with clients assisting with various aspects of zone operations from feasibility through activation and ongoing support and compliance services.

A graduate of Loyola University in New Orleans, Ms. Smith has been a licensed Customs Broker since 1987 and is both a Certified Customs Specialist and an Accredited Zones Specialist and a member of the NAFTZ’s Automation Committee.  

  

Jill James currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer for the John S. James Co. In this capacity, she oversees the design and implementation of Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) services for numerous clients. These services include the execution of FTZ operations as a third-party administrator, the independent auditing of FTZ operations, and performance of the customs business required in FTZ functions. Also, her responsibilities include the establishment of import systems and procedures for various clients of the John S. James Co. She has worked with FTZ implementations on multiple levels, advising clients as to best practices to realize maximum gains from their import processes. 

Ms. James has worked for the John S. James Co. since 1991, serving in various capacities and locations in import, export, transportation, and foreign-trade zone operations. She participates in numerous forums and committees that help mold international trade practices on a federal level.  Ms. James is a Licensed Customs Broker, Certified Customs Specialist, Certified Export Specialist, Certified Zone Specialist, and an Accredited Zone Specialist.

DISCOUNTS: Join NAFTZ in order to qualify for membership discounts.

All individuals must have an NAFTZ membership to receive the NAFTZ member rate, if a substitute is requested, the substitute must have a current NAFTZ membership in order to make such a transfer. If the requested transfer is for a non-member, one would have the option to add an additional membership in order to receive the member rate or pay difference between the paid member and invoiced non-member rate.
