February 2024 Chair's Letter

All Roads Lead to D.C.

Do you want to know why?

First, in case you haven’t heard and, if you have, then this is a reminder, the Legislative Summit is coming up the last week in February! We are really excited about the Summit and the road ahead. We are already collaborating closely with our new Government Relations Advisor who has come to the table with some great ideas that we are already moving to implement regarding how best to tackle the Hill and make the interests of the NAFTZ a priority. Coming to D.C. for the Summit will give you an opportunity to meet them and gain a fresh perspective on all that’s happening in trade. For more on this, check out Melissa Irmen’s Advocacy Update.

Second, your Executive Committee is using this opportunity to convene a special strategy session as we continue to develop our road map for the upcoming year. Whether it’s a question of advocacy, strategic partnerships, event planning or what might be on the trade horizon, the EC wants to stay ahead of the curve and further enhance our members’ experience and the benefits to be realized from participating in the NAFTZ.

Third, D.C. is a chance to apply the lessons learned during civics class all those “many” years ago and walk the halls of Congress. Our visibility has never been greater as a result of the Fly-Ins conducted in December and we look forward to more direct engagement with our legislators. If you are coming to the Summit and want to participate, please let Melissa Irmen know as soon as possible. If you can’t attend, we want your voice to be heard so reach out and let us know the issues of greatest importance to your company and/or industry.

Finally, one of my children’s favorite movies is Meet the Robinsons. If you have littles, I highly recommend it! The best line in that movie is the motto: Keep Moving Forward. Although not the official slogan of the NAFTZ, that phrase strongly represents the momentum we have created. Hopefully, we will see you in D.C. to join the ride. If not, we look forward to seeing you further down the road.
