March 2025 Chair Letter - FTZs in the Spotlight: A Call to Action
Washington DC was exactly where we needed to be last month. Thank you all for being there.
If there was ever a time to be in Washington, DC, it’s now. The world is watching trade. Tariffs, mitigation strategies, supply chain resilience—these are not just niche topics anymore. They are headlines. Boardroom discussions. Policy priorities.
And FTZs? We are now part of that conversation.
But as I said in Washington -- with that spotlight comes responsibility. We walk a fine line—promoting this 90-year-old program as a tool for global competitiveness while ensuring we are not mischaracterized as a loophole or a workaround. The reality is, many of us lose sleep over the uncertainty. One tweet, one policy shift, one headline could put our work at risk. We cannot afford to be reactive. The time to act is now.
And there was no better place to be than together in DC for this year’s Legislative Summit. The work doesn’t stop now, but we worked hard to make our case. Now we must ensure that policymakers, the media, government agencies and the business community understand the true value of FTZs: the jobs, the American investment, and the cluster effect of economic benefits.
No single one of us can do this alone. But together, our efforts are greater than the sum of our parts. Our voices, our advocacy, and our expertise will continue to shape the future of this program.
So let’s step up. Let’s be bold. Let’s make sure that when the world looks at trade, they see FTZs as a solution—not a target.
